Exchange programme for journalists
Contributing to greater understanding, nuanced reporting, and personal growth
For us, corporate social responsibility is a given, so we play an active part in society.
Every year we organise intensive exchange programmes for Dutch journalists and their German and Flemish counterparts on behalf of the ministry of Foreign Affairs. The programme has enabled more than 250 Dutch, German and Flemish journalists to live and work in each others’ countries for two months.
Research has revealed that this gives participants a more accurate image of the other culture and that their reporting of their neighbouring country becomes more nuanced. For the journalists, taking part in the scheme often leads to an internal or external promotion. A number of former participants now work as foreign correspondents, while some have taken up new roles at their host organisation and others have climbed the ladder in their own organisation.
